About Us.

Helping learners discover their gifts, build confidence and become independent learners.

The Gift School learners and team

Our Story

The Gift School began in 2019 with just three learners.

The school was born out of a concern for children who were struggling in mainstream education. These were often bright, capable children. They were working hard but were experiencing repeated failure.

For some learners, reading was extremely difficult. Others struggled with spelling, writing, processing information, organisation or getting their thoughts onto paper.

Over time, we realised that these learners did not necessarily need to work harder. They often needed a different way of accessing learning.

The Gift School was created to provide that different environment. We wanted to create a place where learners could experience success again, understand their own learning difficulties, discover their strengths and develop the skills they need to become independent.

Since those early days, our school has grown, but we have deliberately remained small. We believe that our size is one of our strengths. It enables us to know each learner individually and to understand that no two learners with dyslexia are exactly alike.

Our Approach.

Every learner has unique gifts, strengths and challenges. We meet learners where they are and provide structured teaching, individual support and the tools they need to become increasingly independent.

Our Mission

To help learners become confident, capable and independent learners. We equip learners with the skills, strategies and confidence they need to take responsibility for their own learning and reach their potential.

Our Vision

To see every learner discover their unique gifts, overcome their challenges and become an independent, confident individual who is equipped for the future. We want our learners to leave Gift School knowing themselves as learners, understanding their strengths and having the confidence and skills to move forward.

Our Values

Respect - We value every learner as an individual and treat others with kindness and dignity.
Integrity - We encourage honesty, responsibility and doing what is right. Perseverance – We teach learners that challenges can be overcome through effort, patience and determination.
Independence – We encourage learners to take responsibility for their learning and develop the confidence to do things for themselves.
Kindness – We create a caring environment where learners support and encourage one another.
Faith – We seek to encourage our learners to recognise their God-given gifts and to remain steadfast in the Lord.
Individuality – We celebrate the unique gifts, abilities and learning styles of every child.

What Parents Say

Choosing a new school can be a difficult decision, particularly when a child has experienced frustration or failure. For this reason, we value the experiences of the families who have walked this journey with us. Hear from our parents.

"Seeing my child who is diagnosed with dyslexia, struggle at school and oftentimes being misunderstood by educators, creates a feeling of helplessness in me as a parent. I found it especially difficult when I noticed that his confidence started to suffer as a consequence. I found that many teachers did not know how to accommodate a dyslexic learner in the class or that due to the number of learners in the class, teachers did not have the time or energy to help a dyslexic learner. The Gift Dyslexic School became my light at the end of the tunnel for me and my son. Like a ray of sunshine on a stormy day. The Gift Dyslexic School creates an environment in which my son is understood and empowers him to achieve what he is capable of doing, and more. He was given the necessary tools and guidance by his teachers to achieve what he set out to do. Mrs Marshall and her staff have allowed my son to blossom and become the person he is meant to be by helping him embrace dyslexia and work with it. I would fully recommend any parent with a dyslexic child to send him or her to The Gift Dyslexic School."

"You and your team have given our daughter so much confidence and a hunger to learn. I am also dyslexic and I know how hard school can truly be. My child used to hide under the table, crying when I had to take her to school. Now she can’t wait to get there. The Gift Dyslexic School has been a place for Elizabeth to have space for herself and feel that she can “fit in” and achieve. The school has become a second family for her. A place where she can feel safe and have peers that do not judge but understand and support each other. The way that Elizabeth has learned to use technology to assist her with schoolwork has been mind boggling. The hours of hard work that the teachers put into the lessons, notes and study materials are commendable and have allowed Elizabeth to be an independent and self-motivated learner. Thank you Lynne and your team for giving my little girl the tools to take forward on her life journey."

"Our son enrolled with Lynne Marshall at The Gift Dyslexic School in January 2019 to commence his grade 4 year of education. From a young age he was severely challenged with basic reading, writing and communication skills. As parents and realizing the need for assistance he underwent a number of years of speech and occupational therapy as a means of assisting and improving his basic developmental needs while still maintaining progression through primary school grades which became increasingly challenging for him to accomplish. Although basic therapies mentioned above proved beneficial in his development, the need for an independent assessment became necessary as there were concerns of delayed development. The result of that assessment revealed a level of dyslexia which required immediate corrective intervention for sustained educational development. Prior to enrolling at The Gift Dyslexic School, self-confidence, ability to read, write and communicate were severely restricted. Over the past three years there has been a significant developmental improvement in his self-confidence and in his quality of learning, ability to write and communicate which is evident in his school report. These significant and noteworthy developmental improvements are in our opinion largely attributable to the methods of teaching employed at The Gift Dyslexic School."
